"With beautiful rooms, a superb restaurant and an elegant spa, we offer high-class Southern living and a perfect base from which to explore Atlanta." -Mandarin Oriental, Atlanta
The Mandarin Oriental, Atlanta is a 5 star hotel located in the heart of Buckhead. With only 6 locations in the United States, the Mandarin has locations all over the world from the Asia-Pacific to Europe, the Middle East & Africa.
This past weekend I had my first staycation at the Mandarin Oriental, Atlanta. It was absolutely blissful! Going on vacation is one of my favorite things to do but sometimes all of the logistics can be overwhelming and exhausting. I don’t know anyone who doesn’t love taking a little time to themselves to unwind, relax and simply be. Relaxing at home is fun but why not take a break and change up the scenery a little? During my time at the MO I felt as if I was in a completely different city. All of my worries and stresses were put at bay if only for a little while and I was able to enjoy everything the hotel had to offer. Upon arrival at the Mandarin, valet and the bellhops greet you with warm southern smiles and charm. Your bags and car are taken care of—all you need to do is proceed to check-in with the concierge. Once you’re welcomed and checked-in, you’re escorted to your room to get settled. An optional tour of the room is given along with newspaper delivery options for the morning.
TIP (Pun Intended): Have cash handy. You really don’t have to lift a finger so it’s courteous to tip the valet and bellhops. MO Atlanta has an ATM in the lobby in case you don’t carry cash like me. It’s customary at any hotel to tip the bell hop $2/bag and valet $2-5 upon entry and exit.
When I entered the room I instantly felt relaxed! The color palette is calming and the huge windows allow tons of natural light to flood the room. To my surprise, wine, macaroons and a note from the hotel were waiting for me as my welcome. *heart eyes* I ate the macaroons in about 5 minutes…they were so good!
I poured myself a [large] glass of wine, did some shooting for the fun photos below and got ready for dinner.
MO Atlanta boasts a delicious yet simple menu prepared by Chef Linden Sampson who has worked alongside some of the top chefs in the world. To my surprise he came out to greet me during dinner and we had a lovely chat!
TRY THIS TO EAT + DRINK:
Artisanal Green Salad
Buttermilk Marinated Fried Calamari
Roasted Sea Bass
Chocolate Lava Cake with Vanilla Ice Cream
With Dinner: The Georgia Peach
For Dessert: French Press Coffee
When I returned to my room it was time to get ready for bed. A breakfast order menu was placed on my pillow, slippers and a bottle of water were laid out for me and the lights were dimmed with the curtains closed. Talk about being pampered!
For breakfast I ordered my favorite--Lox with fruit and coffee. The New York Times and the Atlanta Journal Constitution were delivered as well.
Sunday morning before my spa appointment I visited the gorgeous English Garden. Read more about it here!
“Mandarin Oriental, Atlanta’s exclusive Peaches and Cream treatment melts away muscle tension while restoring the body’s balance using a comforting massage with warm cream and peach oil” -Mandarin Oriental, Atlanta
At the Spa, I received the Peaches and Cream treatment and a Red Clay Scalp Massage. Nothing I say will do it justice—you have to try it for yourself! It was an hour and 45 minutes of pure relaxation followed by time in the Spa Whirlpool, Sauna and Steam Rooms. If you choose, you can also relax on the terrace or go for a swim at the indoor pool. At the pool you can choose to have your lunch delivered to you for a secluded getaway.
My Favorite Part of the Stay:
Each time I encountered staff, whether it was at dinner, the spa or when breakfast was delivered, everyone shared their story with me. They told me their journey, shared what made them happy and how they got to the Mandarin. I enjoyed listening to the stories and learning the people that make up the MO Atlanta family. It’s interesting—I find when I tell people I’m doing a review or blogging they seem to open up more. Not necessarily about what I’m writing about, the hotel, but more so about themselves. I think when other people see someone doing something they love, they want to share what they love too. It’s an interesting dynamic, one that I find rare and special. I felt at home, away from home.
Fun MO Fact: They always incorporate something unique to the hotel location into the names of drinks, spa treatments and food.
Then came check-out. I practically cried having to pack my bags but I take solace in knowing they are right down the street and there are other locations in the world. Throughout all of my experiences with the Mandarin Oriental I can say that their hospitality and customer service never wavers. The amount of detail they put into each piece of the hotel truly makes all the difference.
